The staff of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC or Commission) has prepared this environmental assessment (EA) for the natural gas pipeline facilities proposed by the Liberty Gas Storage, LLC (Liberty) in the abovereferenced docket.

The EA was prepared to satisfy the requirements of the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969. The FERC staff concludes that approval of the proposed project, with appropriate mitigating measures, would not constitute a major federal action significantly affecting the quality of the human environment.

The EA assesses the potential environmental impacts resulting from construction and operation of Liberty's proposed Liberty Gas Storage Expansion Project. This project would involve the conversion of three salt dome caverns for natural gas storage, the creation of a new salt dome cavern for natural gas storage, the construction of one, approximately 18,940 horsepower compressor station, a 5.1milelong, 36inchdiameter natural gas pipeline, a 4.0milelong, 16inch
diameter brine disposal pipeline, and associated facilities in Cameron and Calcasieu Parishes, Louisiana.

The EA has been placed in the public files of the FERC. A limited number of copies of the EA are available for distribution and public inspection at: Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, Public Reference Room, 888 First Street, NE., Room 2A, Washington, DC 20426, (202) 502 8371.

Copies of the EA have been mailed to interested federal and state agencies, individuals who requested to remain on the FERC staff's environmental mailing list and parties to this proceeding.
