Tenth Annual Butterfly Festival Parade Sept 13
Please join us for the tenth annual Butterfly Festival Parade. Line-up begins at 9 a.m. behind First United Methodist Church, and parade begins at 9:30. We invite all mayors, town officials, school board members, police jury members, church leaders, policemen, firemen, schools, puplic service people, and all applicants in the upcoming elections. We also encourage all motorcycle and horse riders, plus those who have antique cars. We will again feature our annual pet parade contest for the largest, smallest, most unusual, and best decorated pet. Judging will be on Main Street, and trophies will be awarded at the opening ceremony following the parade at the Fair Grounds. Please call Linda Knox at 624-1606 for further information.
Vendors Sought For Butterfly Festival
Food and craft vendors are being sought for the annual Haynesville Celebration of Butterflies. The charge for vendors is $25 for a 10'x10' booth in the air-conditioned building and $15 for a 12'x12' space under a covered pavilion. Tables can be rented for $5 each. Butterfly Festival To Feature Nature Photography Contest
A nature photography contest will be part of the Haynesville Celebration of Butterflies to be held September 13 at the Claiborne Parish Fairgrounds in Haynesville. Entry classes are: Student in grades 1-4, grades 5-8, grades 9-12, and adults. All photographs will be on exhibition during the festival with winners being announced from the stage at 12:30 PM Awards each class are first place $20, second $15, third $10, and fourth honorable mention. The Tenth Annual Haynesville Celebration of Butterflies will be held Saturday, September 13, 2008, at the Claiborne Parish Fairgrounds in Haynesville beginning with the Butterfly Parade at 9:30 AM. The day's activities will include a number of activities including several educational workshops, musical entertainment, creative fun for kids and a nature photography contest.

About the Butterfly Festival Speakers
NORMAN WINTER - Extension Horticulturist with Mississippi State University Extension Service, is the author of three gardening books. His award winning Southern Gardening TV news segment airs weekly plus its radio counterpart is heard daily on 42 stations. He is a syndicated columnist with McClatchy Tribune and also writes a Southern Gardening column for several newspapers in Mississippi.
CHARLES ALLEN, Ph.D - biology professor at ULM before retiring, is currently a botanist at Ft. Polk. He has attended all of our previous festivals giving valuable
contributions with his programs, plant walks and displays. Active with the Louisiana Native Plant Society and the Cajun Prairie Habitat Preservation Society, Charles is the author of several books on native plants.
RICHARD JOHNSON - with his wife Jessie, is longtime curator of the Caroline Dormon Nature Preserve. He was a disciple of Caroline Dormon who was an author, artist and driving force behind the establishment of Kisatchie National Forest in Louisiana. Richard, a charter member of the Louisiana Native Plant Society, is a walking encyclopedia on plants, butterflies, birds, history of his area

ROBIN BRIDGES - Claiborne Parish County Agent (4-H/ANR), has been a frequent speaker at our festival, presenting varied programs. Environmental Stewardship
begins at home; Robin enjoys educating youth and adults about this important topic. He has been working with youth and adults on water conservation/water quality for 15 years. Robin started teaching the Master Gardener class in Webster Parish in 2003. He enjoys working with homeowners and home gardeners alike.
The
10th annual Haynesville Celebration of Butterflies, Memorial Butterfly
Conservatory will be held on September 13, 2008. The event will be at the
Claiborne Parish Fairgrounds located in Haynesville.
Admission
for the activities will be $2 for adults, $1 for children ages six to
eighteen, and those under the age of six will be free.
The
festival is hosted by the Claiborne Chamber of Commerce and the Haynesville
Garden Club.
