  <title><![CDATA[  Patient Safety Organizations: A Compliance Self-Assessment Guide]]></title>

  <description><![CDATA[ AHRQ is announcing the availability of a document entitled: 
``Patient Safety Organizations: A Compliance SelfAssessment Guide.'' 
The Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Act of 2005, Public Law 109
41, 42 U.S.C. 299b21b26 (Patient Safety Act) provides for the 
formation of Patient Safety Organizations (PSOs), which collect, 
aggregate, and analyze confidential information regarding the quality 
and safety of healthcare delivery. The Patient Safety and Quality 
Improvement Final Rule (Patient Safety Rule) (42 CFR part 3) authorizes 
AHRQ, on behalf of the Secretary of HHS, to: list as a PSO an entity 
that attests that it meets the statutory and regulatory requirements 
for listing; and request additional information and conduct reviews 
(including announced or unannounced site visits) to assess PSO 
compliance. To assist PSOs in making the required attestations and 
preparing for a compliance review, AHRQ developed the sample questions

  <title><![CDATA[  Common Formats for Patient Safety Data Collection and Event  Reporting]]></title>

  <description><![CDATA[ The Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Act of 2005, 42 
U.S.C. 299b21 to b26 (Patient Safety Act), provides for the formation 
of Patient Safety Organizations (PSOs), which collect, aggregate, and 
analyze confidential information regarding the quality and safety of 
healthcare delivery. The Patient Safety Act (at 42 U.S.C. 299b23) 
authorizes the collection of this information in a standardized manner, 
as explained in the related Patient Safety and Quality Improvement 
Final Rule, 42 CFR part 3 (Patient Safety Rule), published in the 
Federal Register on November 21, 2008: 73 FR 7073170814. As authorized 
by the Secretary of HHS, AHRQ coordinates the development of a set of 
common definitions and reporting formats (Common Formats) that allow 
healthcare providers to voluntarily collect and submit standardized 
information regarding patient safety events. The initial release of the 
formats, Version 0.1 Beta, was announced in the Federal Register on

  <title><![CDATA[  AHRQ Intent To Publish Grant and Contract Solicitations for  Comparative Effectiveness Research (CER) Projects With]]></title>

  <description><![CDATA[ AHRQ is announcing the Agency's intention to support new CER 
projects, with funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act 
(ARRA). The ARRA appropriated $300 million to AHRQ for support of CER. 
ARRA funding will focus, initially, on 14 priority conditions 
established by the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human 
Services under Section 1013 of the Medicare Prescription Drug, 
Improvement, and Modernization Act of 2003. These priority conditions 
were identified through a process involving discussion with, and 
extensive input from, the public as well as Federal agencies. The list 
of priority conditions is relevant to the Medicare, Medicaid, and State 
Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) programs, and can be found

  <title><![CDATA[  Request for Tools and Methods Used by Small- and Medium-Sized  Practices for Analyzing and Redesigning Workflows]]></title>

  <description><![CDATA[ This notice announces the intention of the Agency for 
Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) to request information from (1) 
small and mediumsized practices about how they study or redesign 
their workflow, including information on the use of tools and methods 
for studying workflow, and (2) others (e.g., experts, vendors, 
professional associations) that have developed, implemented and used 
tools and methods for studying workflow in the context of health IT 
implementation and use. Workflow is defined as the way work is 
performed and patientrelated information is communicated within small 
and mediumsized practices and between those practices and external 
organizations such as community pharmacies and local hospitals. It is 
our understanding that there is currently no standard description of 
workflows for care processes that can be used to guide decisions of

  <title><![CDATA[  Solicitation for Nominations for Members of the U.S. Preventive  Services Task Force (USPSTF)]]></title>

  <description><![CDATA[ The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) invites 
nominations of individuals qualified to serve as members of the U.S.  Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF).</p><p>    The USPSTF, a standing, panel of outside experts that makes 
evidencebased recommendations to the health care community and the 
public regarding the provision of clinical preventive services, is 
composed of members appointed to serve for four year terms with an 
option for reappointment. New members are selected each year to replace 
approximately one fourth of the USPSTF members, i.e., those who are 
completing their appointments. Individuals nominated but not appointed 
in previous years, as well as those newly nominated, are considered in  the annual selection process.</p><p>    USPSTF members meet three times a year for two days in the 
Washington, DC area. Between meetings, member duties include reviewing 
and preparing comments (off site) on systematic evidence reviews prior

</p><p>    Notice is hereby given that I have delegated to the Director, 
Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), the authorities 
vested in the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services  under Section 204,<br/> [[Page 8544]]<br/>
of the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act of 2008, 
Public Law 110275, as amended, pertaining to contracting with the 
Institute of Medicine for reports on best practices for conducting 
systematic reviews of clinical effectiveness research and for  developing clinical protocols.</p><p>    This delegation shall be exercised in accordance with the 
Department's applicable policies, procedures, guidelines and  regulations.</p><p>    In addition, the delegation ratifies and affirms any actions taken 
by you or your subordinates that involved the exercise of the
